Actually lucked out with those streaks, I carved them into the leather and put blobs of very wet blue paint at the tops and just let it run down into the cracks!
So far that technique hasnt been completely successful (I do it with my dragons too to make the scales stand out).... but on this one it worked perfectly!
You might try a small botte of black, just to see if you like it. I use that method on almosrt every not-white mask I do. It really makes your carving pop. Check out the link:

You can use it safely right over your paint...the excess wipes off but leaves stain behind in your carving & in creases, adds texture & depth. It saves a TON of time too. Give it a try.

I actually was thinking about you the other day... you could/should be charging for online lessons... call it an apprenticeship... you are a master by now with your years of experience!
